Drought Resilience Officers, NRMs Community of Practice, 7 April 2026

The ERW Project Science Lead, Professor Paul Nelson, will join the upcoming Community of Practice meeting. This session is hosted by the TNQ Drought Hub for Drought Resilience Officers across tropical North Queensland NRM groups.

Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Annual Meeting, 19 - 21 May 2026 (UK)

Professor Paul Nelson will participate in the annual meeting of the Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation in Sheffield, UK. The Leverhulme Centre brings together researchers from a wide range of backgrounds to explore the potential of using enhanced rock weathering on croplands to remove CO2 from the atmosphere.

23rd World Congress of Soil Science, 7-12 June 2026 (China)

This upcoming conference will bring together soil scientists to collaborate on tackling the diverse challenges facing both developed and developing regions.. Our lead scientist Dr Binoy Sarkar and Research Associate Birhanu Iticha Ayanssa will deliver presentations, while Lakshmi Chamaparambil Suresh has been invited to present a poster session.

Enhanced Rock Weathering Research in Australia Symposium, 25 June 2026 (Cairns, Australia)

Hosted by James Cook University, the symposium will showcase Australian research from researchers, early career scholars, practitioners, and key collaborators exploring both emerging science and practical applications of enhanced rock weathering (ERW).

Field Visit to Avocado Trial Site, 26 June 2026 (Mareeba, Australia)

Explore an ERW field trial site on an avocado farm near Mareeba. Meet the farmer, deployment company and scientists, and learn about the concept and practicalities of enhanced rock weathering.

3rd International Conference on Biochar Research and Application and the 2026 IBI Biochar World Congress, 7-10 August 2026 (China)

Dr. Binoy Sarkar, the scientific lead from the University of Adelaide, will attend this global conference, which brings together international experts investigating biochar for carbon sequestration and emissions reduction.

Australian Soils Conference, 1-5 November (Perth, Australia)

Members of our ERW team will be joining Soil Science Australia at their national conference to explore soil health and understanding of soil as the foundation for productivity, security, community, and resilience.

In the session ‘GC095 - Scaling Enhanced Rock Weathering for CO₂ Removal in the (Sub-)Tropics: Innovations in MRV, Agronomy, and Community-Driven Deployment’, Fred Holden presented results from ERW research in sugarcane in Australia.

NQ Avocado Industry & Hort ‘Show Days’ – 9-10 October 2025 (Tolga, Australia)

A two-day industry gathering that brought together businesses and growers to connect, share insights, and explore the latest in innovations in the avocado horticultural. The Enhanced Rock Weathering team shared information about their project and their upcoming field visit to the avocado trial site in June 2026.
