Dr Binoy Sarkar, a project partner in enhanced rock weathering at the University of South Australia (UniSA), is making headlines for his innovative work transforming crushed basalt into a powerful tool for sustainable farming. A recent UniSA media release highlights basalt’s potential to improve soil health, reduce fertiliser costs, and capture carbon—offering a win-win for both farmers and the environment. In addition to his role in the national trial, Dr Sarkar is leading a complementary research project funded by Cascade Climate, and supervising student-led projects investigation aspects of basalt use.
