New trial site in an irrigated dairy system, Victoria.
Located near Warrnambool, this new trial site is on an irrigated dairy property.
The trial will run until June 2028 with several rounds of pasture growth measurements per year. Researchers are applying basalt at three different rates and potassium at two rates, using a randomised block factorial trial design. Measurements will include soil properties, and capture of carbon in the soil and in deep drainage over the life of the trial.
This work is essential for improving our understanding of the potential of enhanced rock weathering to sequester carbon and improve soil health in pastures in south‑eastern Australia.
